BlueTick for Jira: See Who Has Viewed Your Jira Issues
BlueTick for Jira is a Jira Cloud app by Information Officer, an Atlassian Solution Partner, that shows which teammates have recently viewed a work item — similar to read receipts in messaging apps like Slack or Teams. Each work item displays a short list of recent viewers so your team can tell at a glance who is across an issue, without asking "did you see my ticket?"
It's useful for project managers tracking ticket awareness, scrum masters checking sprint visibility, and support teams confirming that an issue has been reviewed before a follow-up. If you work in Jira and have ever wondered whether a colleague has actually looked at a work item, BlueTick answers that question without interrupting anyone.
Who Should Use BlueTick for Jira?
Project managers
Know which stakeholders have reviewed a work item before a status meeting. Stop chasing "did you see the ticket?" across Slack and email.
Scrum masters and agile teams
Confirm that sprint items and blockers are getting attention from the right people during a sprint, without adding another check-in meeting.
IT support and service desk teams
See whether a ticket has been picked up and reviewed before following up with the requester or assignee. Reduce unnecessary follow-ups.
Team leads and developers
Quickly check whether a PR-related issue, bug, or design ticket has been seen by the people who need to act on it.
Stop wondering who saw your ticket.
Give your team read receipts for every Jira work item. Free to try on the Atlassian Marketplace.
What the Recent Visitors panel shows
Empty panel
No other users have opened this work item recently, or the app was just installed. Your own activity is never shown.
Names and times
Each entry shows a person's name as it appears in Jira, and when they viewed the work item relative to now — e.g. "5 minutes ago" or "2 days ago".
Limit of 10
When more than 10 different people view a work item, the oldest entries are removed. Only the most recent activity per person is kept.
Installing and managing BlueTick for Jira

BlueTick requires a valid license for your Jira site. If the license is not active, users will see a message asking them to contact their administrator. Confirm the license is active under Settings → Apps.
Managing app updates and permissions
When the app vendor releases a version that changes permissions or data access, your site may need to upgrade the app installation so the new permissions apply. Follow Atlassian's prompts when updating Marketplace apps.
Controlling who can see the Recent Visitors panel

Names or display names
Names shown in the panel are resolved live from Jira, not stored by the app.

Frequently asked questions
How many recent viewers does BlueTick show? ▾
For each work item, BlueTick shows up to 10 people who recently viewed it. When more than 10 different people view a work item, the oldest entries are removed and only the most recent activity is kept.
How are viewing times displayed? ▾
Times are shown in plain language relative to now — for example, "5 minutes ago" or "2 days ago".
Will my teammates see that I viewed an issue? ▾
Yes. Your activity is visible to your teammates when they open the same work item. However, you will not see your own visit in the panel — it is designed to show you what other team members have seen.
Where do I find the Recent Visitors panel in Jira? ▾
- Open any work item in Jira in the full work item view (not a board card).
- Look at the work item context area — depending on your Jira version, context panels appear in the right-hand sidebar, under tabs, or in a similar area.
- Find the panel named Recent Visitors (it may also show the label BlueTick for Jira) and open it to see the list.
Note: If you do not see the panel, the app may not be installed on your site, or your role may not have access — contact your administrator.
Why don't I see myself in the list? ▾
The list is designed to show other recent viewers. Your own visit is still counted for your colleagues — you just won't see yourself in the panel.
Why is the list empty? ▾
No other users have viewed this work item recently, or the app was just installed and no one else has opened the work item yet.
Why don't I see a Recent Visitors panel on some issues? ▾
The panel only appears on work items opened in the full work item view. It will not appear on board cards or list views. If you cannot see the panel at all, the app may not be installed on your site, or your Jira role may not have access — contact your administrator.
Does BlueTick track every time I open an issue? ▾
Yes, opening a work item in the full issue view is recorded. The panel will not show your own activity — it is designed to show you what other teammates have seen.
How long is viewing history kept? ▾
BlueTick keeps the most recent 10 viewers per work item. When more than 10 different people view an issue, the oldest entries are removed. There is no time-based expiry — entries fall off only when the list is full.
Does BlueTick store names or email addresses? ▾
No. BlueTick stores only the Atlassian user identifier (an opaque ID) and a timestamp. Names and avatars displayed in the panel are resolved live from Jira using that ID — no personal information is stored by the app itself.
Is BlueTick available on Jira Data Center or Server? ▾
BlueTick for Jira is currently available for Jira Cloud only. It is distributed through the Atlassian Marketplace and requires an active Jira Cloud site.
Will BlueTick slow down Jira? ▾
BlueTick is a lightweight Jira Cloud Forge app. It records a view when an issue is opened and retrieves a small list of recent viewers when the panel is displayed. It does not run background processes or affect Jira's core performance.
Does this work on mobile? ▾
If your Jira mobile client shows work item context apps, you may see the panel there. Layout varies by device and Jira version.
Can I export this list? ▾
No, the feature is designed for display inside Jira. Export behaviour depends on Atlassian and the app; do not rely on this list for audit trails unless your administrator confirms otherwise.
